Pigmentation

WHAT IS IT

Pigmentation is a condition where certain areas of the skin become darker than the surrounding skin due to an overproduction of melanin, the pigment that gives skin its colour. It often happens after skin inflammation or injury, such as acne, cuts irritation or sun exposure, where the skin responds by producing extra pigment in the affected area. This results in flat brown, tan patches.

TYPES OF PIGMENTATION
  • Sun Damage:

Also known as solar lentigines or sunspots, are brown patches that develop on the skin due to long term exposure to UV radiation from the skin. Over time, UV light causes the skin to produce extra melanin in certain areas as protective response.

    PIH:

Triggered by inflammation like acne or trauma to the skin, more common in darker skin types and they can take a while to fade unless treated with sun protection, topical brightening ingredients and clinic treatments

    Melasma:

Triggered by hormones and sun exposure. It appears as large, symmetrical patches of brown or grey-brown pigmentation, commonly on the cheeks, forehead, upper lip, or jawline. Melasma is a condition that cannot be cured, only managed
